Boiler & Auxiliaries Engineer

Salary: £55,000 - £70,000

Overview

Axi Recruitment is working with our client in the Ashington area for a qualified Boiler & Auxiliaries Engineer to join their team on a 12 month fixed-term contract. The successful candidate will join the Maintenance Department to assist the Maintenance Manager with continuous improvement.

Job Details

  • Manage both planned and unplanned overhauls and outages of the unit.
  • Manage and coordinate boiler tube leak issues.
  • Manage the pressure parts and general Maintenance Team.
  • Responsible for maintenance activity related to rotating equipment for the boiler.
  • Responsible for all type maintenance work related to the boiler.
  • Optimise maintenance planning and resource scheduling activities using the Computer Maintenance Management System.
  • Assist with the Asset Integrity Management System, including the inspection programme of pressure, non-pressure, and structural assets.
  • Undertake project work relating to mechanical plant in the boiler or other areas.
  • Analyse breakdowns to increase plant flexibility, efficiency, availability, and reliability using available maintenance tools.
  • Assist in optimising contractor usage and reducing contractor costs.
  • Assist in compliance with and monitoring of process safety requirements.
  • Make decisions and issue directives for the scope of work.
  • Act as the delegated authority for the Mechanical Area Engineer consisting of turbine and rotating plant.

Qualifications

  • HND in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 3 A Levels / HNC or equivalent in relevant field.
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent demonstrable experience is advantageous.
  • IOSH Management is desrable.

Experience

  • Knowledge of boiler plant and auxiliary equipment maintenance.
  • Knowledge of pipework systems, vessels; piping design codes, materials technology for pressure parts; welding; boiler ancillary equipment; materials handling.
  • Knowledge of methods for NDT techniques.
  • Experience and training in carrying out boiler tube repairs is desirable.
  • Previous professional experience working within the power generation sector, or relevant industry background is desirable.
  • Knowledge of assisting with the application of Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR).
  • Developing and implementing short, mid and long-term mechanical integrity programs.
  • Experience of outage preparation and execution.
  • Experience and knowledge of budget preparation.
  • Understanding of environmental and safety legislation.
  • Knowledge of maintenance strategies and improvement techniques.
  • Principles and practices of process safety requirements.
  • Excellent planning and organisation skills.
  • Capable of creating and maintaining productive working relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively prioritise tasks.
  • A self-motivated professional individual with strong interpersonal skills, with effective communication skills with all stakeholders.
  • A strategic and critical thinker, with demonstrable experience in the development of innovative solutions to drive improved performance and results.
